NAVY ELITE SWIM CAMPS takes pride in offering camps that are coached by individuals with an impressive set of skills and experiences. This ensures that each camper is handled by an experienced coach that facilitates their training as an elite swimmer. We invite you to learn about our coaches.
John Morrison
Head Women’s Swim Coach John Morrison has been the head coach of the Navy women’s swimming program for 19 years, starting in the fall of 2022. Under his leadership, the team has achieved a record of 159-41 overall, with an impressive 71-2 record against league opponents in regular season meets. Morrison has been recognized as the Patriot League Coach of the Year seven times and the ECAC Coach of the Year eight times.
Over the past 16 years, Navy has maintained a record of 143-31, including two undefeated seasons and a 63-1 record against Patriot League opponents. The team has secured 12 first-place finishes and three second place finishes at the Patriot League Championship.
During the last eight seasons, Navy has achieved a 66-16 record, with losses only to formidable opponents such as LSU, Georgia Tech, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn State, Virginia, and Princeton. The team has also maintained a winning streak of 33 years against Army and won all seven Patriot League meets that were contested, extending their streak of consecutive league crowns to 10.

Recent Achievements
The recent success of the Navy women’s swimming team began in 2015, with a 7-3 regular season record, followed by a strong showing at the Patriot League Championship. The team continued its winning streak in the subsequent seasons, winning the league crown in 2016, 2018, and 2019. In the 2019-20 season, Navy compiled a 10-2 record in the regular season and claimed 12 swimming events at the Patriot League Championship.
In the 2021-22 season, Navy achieved a 7-2 record and won the league title by nearly 400 points, marking the program’s 20th Patriot League crown.
Under Coach Morrison’s guidance, Navy has also excelled at the ECAC Championships, earning first-place finishes in 2012, 2014, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020, with second place finishes in 2015, 2016, and 2022.

Major Accomplishments
Individually, Morrison’s coaching has resulted in 14 swimmers being named league swimmer-of-the-year over a span of 17 years. The Navy team has won a league-best 177 swimming event titles at the Patriot League Championship, surpassing the total of 132 event titles won by the remainder of the league.
Throughout his coaching career, John Morrison has gained experience at various institutions, including the University of Tennessee, Rutgers University, Lehigh University, and Washington & Lee University. He has also directed club programs such as the Ocean County YMCA and Rockbridge County Aquatic Club. John is passionate about swimming as a sport and values the teaching moments and lessons it provides.
He is excited to offer this camp and contribute to the development of swimmers both in and out of the pool.

Caryle Ellis
Assistant Coach Carlye Ellis joined the Navy women’s swimming team as an assistant coach in the summer of 2023. Before this, she had been a coaching staff member at Duke for two seasons. At Duke, she held various roles, including lead assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and director of operations for the women’s team. She specifically coached middle distance and distance swimmers and the individual medley and 200-yard length events.
Prior Experience
During her tenure at Duke, the women’s team achieved a 24th-place finish at the 2022 NCAA Championship and a 21st-place finish at the 2023 national championship. Notably, the team had two women swimmers earn First-Team All-America honors, which was the first time the women’s team had multiple First-Team All-Americans in a single season. This marked the team’s highest finish at the championship in over a decade.
Carlye Ellis hails from Ann Arbor, Mich., and graduated from Pioneer High School in 2007. She swam for Texas in college, where she was a part of the 200 and 400 medley relay teams that won two Big 12 Conference titles. She also received Honorable Mention All-America honors at the 2009 NCAA Championship. In 2011, she graduated from Texas with a bachelor’s degree in corporate communications. She further pursued her education, earning master’s degrees from Valparaiso (2015, sport administration) and Ohio (2021, organizational communications).

Coaching Experience
Her coaching career began in 2013 as a graduate assistant at Valparaiso, where she was the sole assistant coach for the men’s and women’s teams. After two seasons, she transitioned to Cornell as an assistant coach for the women’s team in 2015. She spent three years at Cornell before joining Ohio’s women’s team as an assistant coach in 2018.
In addition to coaching, she also took on responsibilities as the recruiting coordinator and director of operations for the team. In 2021, Carlye Ellis joined the coaching staff at Duke before eventually starting her first season with the Navy women’s swimming team in 2023.
